Now being a cowboy poet kinda has its ups and downs, and I think it's 'cause you start paying too much attention to the words and expressions that folks tend to run right into the ground. I just don't get. Here it is the middle of May and this doggone pond ain't unthawed yet!" UNTHAWED???? Now, that stupid expression gets to me like none I've ever heard and accordin' to Websters book, hey I looked it up, and there just ain't no such a word. And I'll bet folks would stop usin' that word altogether if they'd think about it once or twice, 'cause for something to become "unthawed", wouldn't it have to turn right back into ice? And did ya ever notice how we pick on some words only when they ain't around? 'Cause I've never seen a horse"full" carriage! Have any of you ladies ever seen a strap "full" gown? Even those college educated rug rats with their diplomas and PHD's and other degrees. Well, now and then they'll use this stupid expression that really gets to me. They'll be arguin' with someone about somethin' they figure they know and if the debate ain't goin' well, they'll turn and yell, "It's the same difference, ya know." And then just the other day I heard someone say somethin' that made me want to break right down and bawl. I overheard a guy tell a friend of his he had to have a new hot water heater installed. Did he really spend good money on such a machine? I surely hope and pray not. Why do you need something to heat hot water, isn't hot water already hot? Well, these are just a few of the words folks use that'll drive me right to drink, but then I guess most folds talk as good as I do, maybe some even gooder, I think!

My mother-in law was telling me that a friend of hers was detained by Security at the airport. It seems that they found some yarn and knitting needles in her carry-on bag. After much ado, they allowed her to keep the yarn, but confiscated the knitting needles. Apparently they were afraid that she was knitting an afghan!!!

Exotic companion pets are wonderful, they are fun, and loving, but like any companion pet, they do require time, attention and often they have special needs. Please do not go out and buy a potbellied pig or a parrot because they are cute little babies. They grow up. Many wonderful animals, such as potbellied pigs have been zoned out of their loving homes by stupid, uninformed/misinformed, biggoted city officials thinking that the word "pig" has a negative connotation. The luckier pigs are forced to live in pig sanctuaries away from their loving families. Many are not so lucky and end up at livestock auctions and ultimately in someones freezer. Although the potbellied pig was brought to the U.S. specifically for the purpose of being a pet. The pork council does not recognize them as a viable food source. Several years ago we went thru a very unhappy time when the city we live in attempted to force us to "get rid" of our potbellied pigs. We had already had the kids for 5 years with no complaints from ANYONE. Animal Control was never called to my home for a barking pig, or a pig running amok, or biting the postman, or tearing up the neighbors yard or making poopies all over the neighborhood.. But a meter reader saw them in the back yard one day and we were told to "get rid of the pigs." Of course we refused and the city took us to court. We went thru pure hell. After 4 trips to the zoning/planning commision, to pursuade them to recommend to the city council to include potbellied pigs as companion pets, 4 meetings with the city council & mayor, and 4 trips to court, we retained a criminal attorney to defend the pigs and ultimately, we won our case! Snuffy, Weezy and Willy are still here, but the mayor had only 1 term in office and lost his bid for reelection with a very poor showing......YES!!! If you are experiencing zoning problems with your companion pet potbellied pig there are resources available to you. Many people have been thru it and are willing to share their expertise to help you keep your pet. Also, please consider a financial contribution to one of the many potbellied pig sanctuaries that take in these zoned-out pets and attempt to give them a home away from home. When ripped from their loving homes, many actually go into depression, quit eating and die!
